The Mighty Lions traveled to Northwood for a 10 am rematch of a pre-season game that ended 1-1 only a couple of weeks before. The team was coming off an emotionally charged win at Plymouth and wanted to test their consistency against another local rival that had proven difficult to beat for many years. The Panthers started hot and were able to test the Lions' back line early, but sophomore shot stopper Isaac Garber stood tall under the challenge and made saves to keep a zero. As the first half wore, the Lions started to apply more pressure and then senior forward Austin Town pounced on a loose ball opportunity to score a long range goal and put Bremen up 1-0. Fellow senior Jovany Diaz would put the team up 2-0 about 10 minutes later when he broke into the box and was fouled trying to head the ball. Diaz's PK attempt was saved, but he quickly fired the rebound into the net. In the second half, the Lions started impose more of their play and freshman Manny Gonzalez scored his first high school goal when senior Nathan Schnaible received a pass and then threaded the ball through the NW defense to Gonzalez for a first time finish. The Lions will now play Manchester in the championship game at 5 pm at Northwood's Wellfield Park (501 Wellfield, Park Dr, Nappanee, IN 46550). Tickets are $7.
