After their jubilant win on Friday night, the Lions returned to action and dropped two tight road games at Columbia City and Logansport. They righted the ship on Tuesday, defeating Marquette Catholic 14-6 to close out a stretch of six straight road games. After trading zeroes in the first two innings, Bremen went for 3, 5, 2, 3, and 1, rattling off 18 hits and six walks en route to their fifteenth win of the season. Starting pitcher Aiden Alvarado cruised through three scoreless innings for the Lions, who spotted him a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. 2B Jace Pippenger doubled after a leadoff error, setting up a 2-run single for DH Zack Rouch. Rouch then scored on a sac fly. After Alvarado worked a 1-2-3 inning, the visitors were back to work, getting another five across in the fourth. Bremen turned the lineup over by loading the bases with a hit, two bunts, and a walk. Pippenger brought two home on a flare to right, and Rouch followed up with another 2 run single, making it 7-0. Alvarado brought Rouch in with a two out hit. Marquette struck back in the bottom of the fourth, however. A one out sequence of - single, error, HBP, walk, passed ball, double - made it 8-4 Lions. After a pitching change, another series of walks and hits brought two more runs in, making it 8-6 Bremen heading to the fifth. CF Corban Van Vuren walked and scored on a hit by RF Jack Wildauer. Wildauer came in on a sac fly from Rouch - his 5th RBI of the game and 30th of the season. RP David Monesmith worked a clean bottom half, getting his team up to hit with a 10-6 lead going into the 6th. Alvarado and 3B Max Barnes both walked. Van Vuren got down a bunt, leading to a throwing error and another run for Bremen. Barnes then scored on a sac fly by Wildauer and Van Vuren came in on a two-out single by Pippenger later in the inning. Two Blazer hitters reached in the bottom half, but Monesmith stranded both, protecting the 13-6 lead. Alvarado singled home Rouch with two outs in the seventh, extended the margin to 14-6. LF JJ Cencelewski came on and worked an 8 pitch, 1-2-3 bottom of the 7th to lock up the win for Bremen. Bremen will host Pioneer on Wednesday for senior night.
