Varsity baseball hosted Tippy on Friday and got away with a 4-3 victory. David Monesmith threw four scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win for Bremen. JJ Cenclewski came on for the save and also went 2-3 with a triple. Bremen is now 12-2 on the season and 8-0 in conference with the win. The Lions went reeling after Tippy threw the first punch with a leadoff double. After a pair of errors and passed balls plus another Valley double, the Lions found themselves down 3-0 before coming to bat. Bremen got two runners on in the bottom half, but ran into a double play to end the threat. Starting pitcher Zack Buskiewicz battled through the second inning, getting the Lions back into the dugout down by the same margin. He led off with a double and advanced to third on a bloop single from Jace Pippenger. Max Barnes followed with a pop up double to score one. Him and Pippenger would both come in to score on passed balls in the next at bat, evening the score at 3-3. David Monesmith came out of the bullpen for the second time in as many days and worked around five walks to provide four innings of scoreless, hitless relief. He added four strikeouts over the course of the outing. Bremen took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two out RBI single from Landon Bates, scoring Pippenger. Jack Wildauer hosed the potential tying run at the plate in the top of the fifth to preserve the Bremen lead. While Monesmith continued to hang zeroes, the Lion lineup couldn't come up with a clutch at bat, getting baserunners in the fifth and sixth but not scoring any of them. The defense and pitching remained composed after the initial shock however, and navigated the 4-3 lead into the 7th. JJ Cencelewski took the ball for the save and worked a 1-2-3 inning after starting and winning yesterday's game. With the win, Bremen remains unbeaten in INSC play and sets up a compelling final series with Glenn (6-1) next week. The Lions had runners in scoring position every inning but only converted in two of them. They also finished the game with three errors and seven walks to Tippy's clean sheet in both categories. Yet the resilient squad managed to escape with a 4-3 victory, thanks to a couple of bloop hits, better defense as the game went on, and a signature unwavering faith in success. They will take the weekend off before hosting Central Noble on Monday.
