The Lady Lions traveled Friday to complete in a two day tournament at Columbia City High School. This tournament is one of the toughest in the state with multiple ranked girls in each weight class. The Lady Lions went to work. McKenzie Scott had a bye in round one. Round 2 she wrestled the Manchester girl that beat her last week at Rochester. McKenzie revenged that loss and pinned the Manchester girl. Scott then wrestled a tough Lowell opponent and came out on top with another pin. McKenzie moved to the quarterfinals where she wrestled a strong Highland wrestler. McKenzie came up short. She then lost to her next match to the number 14 ranked girl in the state from Portage. She did not advance to day 2. McKenzie improved in this tournament from last season. She went 2-2 on the weekend. Makenzie Shumaker wrestled in one of the toughest weight classes at this tournament with 7 ranked girls in the weight class. Makenzie had a bye her first round then wrestled a girl from Angola. Shumaker pinned the girl from Angola. The next round Makenzie pinned her opponent for Purdue Polytechnic (Downtown). Makenzie then wrestled the number 9 ranked girl from Highland. Makenzie came up short. Makenzie then went on a beat a solid Crown Point wrestler to advance to day 2. To start day 2, Makenzie would face the number 5 ranked girl in the state from Eastbrook. Shumaker won by a pin. The next round Makenzie would face the number 8 ranked girl from Beech Grove. Makenzie lost that, this would then put her in the 5th place match against the Highland girl again. Due to weather, some teams were unable to come back and compete on day 2. Makenzie won 5th place by a forfeit. Kayleanna Moser wrestled in a solid weight class. Kayleanna got a bye first round. Round two she wrestled a tough match against an Angola wrestler where she came up short. Moser then had a bye and then lost to a strong Blackford wrestler. She did not advance to day 2. The Lady Lions battled the past two days and will have a quick turn around with wrestling again on Monday. The Lady Lions will travel to West Central to wrestle against Culver and West Central Monday. Keep up the hard work ladies.
