Varsity Golf · Harrison Goes Out on Top

The Northern Indiana Conference recently presented the Coach of the Year awards for 2017-18.  Don Harrison was overwhelmingly chosen to receive the NIC honors as coach of the Bremen High School Girls Golf team.  A well-deserved honor for Coach Harrison who is stepping down as after 9 successful seasons.  Don’s teams won the last 2 championships in the former Northern States Conference and claimed South Division titles in each year of Bremen’s membership in the Northern Indiana Conference.  Of the 13 NIC schools, Bremen finished in 2nd place behind only Penn High School for the past 3 seasons.    Under his leadership, this year’s team left no doubt they belong with the best in northern Indiana.  The 2018 senior class amassed a career record of 65-8, the best our school has ever fielded.  In addition to girls golf, Don has coached boys golf, swimming and diving at Bremen.  He has been the voice at Bremen Football, Basketball, Swimming, Diving and Unified Track contests as the public address announcer.  His willingness to assist at contests does not go unnoticed whether he is manning a scoreboard or judging an event.  He has been an invaluable asset of the BHS Athletic Department.  In golf, you compete against a course and yourself.  Coaching the mental part of the game is as important if not more so than the technical instruction.  It is also the most difficult part of coaching and Don has done a masterful job.  BHS has been fortunate to have the golf program in Coach Harrison’s good hands for the last 9 seasons and the results speak for themselves.
